To Do or Not To Do

Josh

This is the question I was faced when I decided to venture onto the internet and try to make some money off of it.

In my day job, I am a database programmer and IT manager. Although this doesn't sound like it would have any interaction with doing anything on the internet it actually does. I use the popular(Well in Mac Circles anyway) database program called FileMaker.

This piece of software has literally changed my life. In fact I only learned how to use it in 2005. I was faced with a career decision.

I was hired on to a company as the computer systems administrator, but their were two obstacles that I had to overcome in order to keep my job. First, I had to learn apple computers(I previously had only seen them in movies honestly) and I had to learn the database software FileMaker.

The second obstacle was basically I had to learn these two things in about 30 days in order to keep my job. I wasn't about to just sit there and do nothing, so I feverishly reviewed anything I could about FileMaker and about apple computers and I learned them both in under 30 Days!

This was a big accomplishment for me and I knew that I had a bright future with the company and with FileMaker.

Through these last couple of years I have gotten very proficient with FileMaker and how it works. Some of the neat things that the current version does is have a web viewer.

This is a sample Police Database with the webviewer

The web viewer is simply a placeholder for a website. But the unique thing about the web viewer is that you can send calculations to it and make the web link be anything you want to. I currently use this in my Internet Marketing side of things with a custom Classified Ad submitter that I created to navigate through the different sites very efficiently.

Without the use of FileMaker this could not have been possible.

So, getting back to the main topic of "To Do or Not To Do". My main point is don't sell yourself short and say that you can not do something before you even make an attempt at it. If you make an attempt and fail, try harder.

Just Never Give Up.....
